Thugs pose as CBI cops, decamp with jewellery

Last Updated 20 February 2018, 12:59 IST

In what appears to be a straight lift from Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Special 26', three youths, masquerading as CBI officers, raided the house of a prominent trader in Muzaffarpur and decamped with jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh.

The incident took place just at the same time when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials were actually conducting raids at Gitanjali Gems (chain of jewellery shop run by fugitive Nirav Modi) in Muzaffarpur on Monday.

Taking advantage of the fear psychosis among traders in the town, three thugs, posing as CBI cops, entered the house of a businessman Krishna Kanhaiya Jalan and asked him to hand over all the ornaments. The miscreants collected 300 grams of gold, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 15 lakh, locked Jalan and his family members in a room and escaped unchallenged on the bikes.

The criminals stayed in the house for around one hour and ransacked the almirahs in search of precious stones and rings. "They came on three motorcycles. After looting, they left with the valuables in the shoulder bags and warned us of dire consequences if we reported the matter to police," said Jalan.

When informed, the city DSP Ashish Anand rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. A forensic team has been pressed into service so that the investigation could be carried out in a scientific manner," said the DSP, adding that efforts were being made to identify the miscreants through CCTV footage.
