Now, BJP launches #SackHaris campaign

The BJP has stepped up its attack on the Congress by launching a campaign seeking the ouster of Shantinagar legislator N A Haris over the incident involving his son Mohammed Nalapad Haris.

Through the #SackHaris campaign, the BJP has accused the MLA of interfering in the investigation into his son's alleged assault on a diner at a high-end restaurant in Bengaluru.

"Congress is not taking action on MLA Haris by saying they can't punish the father for a crime committed by his son. But the main culprit in this case is MLA Haris, who has abused his office to prevent proper investigation and due process of law (sic). He must be sacked," the saffron party's campaign states.

The BJP has also posed seven questions to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, all ending with a common poser: "Why are you protecting Haris?"

Meanwhile, a BJP delegation led by former deputy chief minister R Ashoka petitioned Governor Vajubhai R Vala, seeking his intervention to maintain law and order in the state. Particularly, the party told the governor that Bengaluru had slipped into "a state of anarchy...being perpetrated by the ruling party MLAs and their henchmen."

The petition recounts the attack on L Vidwath by Haris' son, the incident involving Congressman S Narayanaswamy running amok in a government office in KR Puram and the attack on a BJP worker allegedly by Yeshwantpur MLA S T Somashekhar's supporters. "We requested the governor to summon the chief secretary and get a report on these incidents," Ashoka said. It is learnt that the governor asked the BJP leaders for some supporting documents.
