Devarapura Paisari colony residents stage protest

Last Updated 23 February 2018, 15:34 IST

Demanding basic facilities at Devarapura Paisari colony in Hebbale, members of Dalit Sangarsha Samithi staged a protest at Gandhi Maidan in Madikeri on Friday.

The protesters carried out a procession from Sudarshan Circle to Gandhi Maidan and shouted slogans against the state government and district administration.

Addressing the protesters, JD(S) district president Sanketh Poovaiah said, "there are several remote villages with tribal colonies in the district. The deputy commissioner should visit these colonies and listen to their grievances. The national parties have been using the residents of these colonies as a vote bank for the last several years. None of them has come forward to provide them with basic facilities."

Samithi district convener Parashuram said, "a total of 150 families have been residing in Devarapura paisari haadi. The government has failed in providing basic facilities such as electricity, roads, toilets and drinking water."

He added that the government had forgotten the traditional dwellers and even the title deeds have not been distributed.
