Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday witnessed the famous Latthmar Holi (a tradition  where women hit men with sticks) with a dozen of his Cabinet colleagues at Barsana in Mathura.

Adityanath also visited the Krishna Janambhoomi in Mathura to pay his obeisance there and also directed to augment and improve the security arrangement there.

"Like others, I too have a freedom to celebrate my festivals," Adityanath replied back when asked where he would be celebrating the festival of Eid.

He said that his government had not put any restrictions on the people who celebrate Eid or Christmas.

Adityanath, who was the first chief minister to visit the Krishna Janambhoomi, said he would also celebrate  Deepavali at Varanasi and the upcoming Kumbh Mela at Allahabad.

Speaking at a function on this occasion, the chief minister one must be proud of his cultural heritage.

"It's a 5,000-year-old heritage. It must be preserved," he remarked.

Adityanath and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar applied abir gulal  (dry colours) on the revellers.

A large number of people from nearby villages were present at the celebrations. Flower petals were also showered upon the revellers from a helicopter.
