'Khadi outlets at 100 airports'

Chairman for Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Vinay Kumar Saxena has said that khadi outlets will be opened at 100 airports in the country and that the Khadi institution at Badanavalu will be made a centre for excellence.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, Saxena said that khadi outlets are already functioning at airports in Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Varanasi and the authorities have approved to establish seven more outlets at different airports. There are plans to establish khadi outlets at 100 airports in the coming years, he said. "The Centre has taken several initiatives to promote khadi industry. The country has witnessed 26% development last year," he said.

He said the Khadi Spinning and Weaving Centre at Badanavalu in Nanjangud taluk has been restored with 50 new spinning wheels and 15 looms.
