A 28-year-old software engineer was killed after he slipped from the ninth floor of an apartment complex in Bellandur on Thursday.

Gautam Kumar, a native of Patna, was employed at an IT firm in Kadubeesanahalli. He was residing at BSR apartment in Bellandur, the police said.

Gautam and his friends had bought a flat at the ninth floor of the Sobha Daisy apartment. They were partying there on Thursday night, the police said. His five friends who were present at the flat were Kumar Gaurav, Abhishek Jha, Daksh, Aditya, and Anayath, the police said.

According to the police, around 11 pm, Gautam received a call from one of his family members and went outside the flat to receive it. The police suspect Gautam, in an inebriated state, lost balance and slipped and fell to his death.

Security personnel of the apartment, who heard a loud thud, noticed his body lying in a pool of blood and informed the police. Meanwhile, his friends, who were busy partying, were puzzled as Gautam did not return even after 15 minutes. They tried to call him on his mobile phone. They later came out in search of him as there was no response and noticed people had gathered on the ground floor around Gautam, who was lying motionless.

The Bellandur police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the St John's Hospital after making inquiries with his friends. Investigations are under way to ascertain whether it was an accident, suicide or if there was any foul play.
