NE election results will have no impact on state: CM

Last Updated 05 March 2018, 13:22 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that the results of Assembly elections in North Eastern states will have no impact on state election.

Speaking to reporters at Mysore Airport, at Mandakalli, near here, the CM said, Congress emerged as the largest party in Meghalaya and BJP had an alliance with the regional parties. It is a setback for the CPM in Tripura as the party, which was ruling there for 25 years, lost the election. The Congress party did not suffer any setback in North Eastern states and the results would not have any impact on the Karnataka elections, he said.

When reporters asked about the Congress party's alliance with JD(S) in the upcoming elections to the Rajya Sabha, the CM said, the Congress party would not join hands with the JD(S).

JD(S) state unit president H D Kumaraswamy did not contact him in connection with this, he said. "Congress party does not need the support of any party support in Karnataka, but we need people's support," Siddaramaiah said.

He said the candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections will be finalised soon. "I am visiting Delhi to discuss about the candidates with the party high command," Siddaramaiah said.

To a query, the chief minister said the Congress party had good hold in urban regions. Of the 28 Assembly segments in Bengaluru city, Congress will win 25, Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah said secular parties need to joining hands to defeat the communal party, BJP.

"I support secular parties coming together at the national level. Our target is communal parties and the people of the state will never vote for those who disturb harmony and divide the nation on the basic of community and caste," Siddaramaiah said.

Rahul's tour
All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi will tour the Mysuru region for four days. Rahul will tour the region on March 21, 22, 24 and 25. He will address a mega public conference in Mysuru on March 25, the chief minister said.

No opposition for Kheny
When reporters asked about the opposition from a few Congress party leaders to MLA Ashok Kheny joining the party, Siddaramaiah said no leader had opposed Kheny, who joined the party in Bengaluru on Monday.
