More than 3000 people took part in marathons and fun walk event to raise funds for various community service initiatives.

The Rotary Bangalore Rajarajeshwari Nagar Centennial had organised the events recently for the third edition of Mindtree and RRRun. A half marathon, 10 km and 5 km fun run/walk drew nearly 3,300 participants.

Participants included not only residents in and around Rajarajeshwari Nagar but also enthusiasts from Whitefield, Sarjapur and other areas. Quite a few runners came from other districts of Karnataka and from neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Olympian Anju Bobby George, the Good Earth 5K Run partner, said she was surprised to see such a good turnout with many people of all ages. "It was a pleasure flagging off the run and it warms my heart to see athletics gaining momentum in India," she said.

Chitra Byregowda, Head of Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, Mindtree, said,"The average age of the Mindtree population is 25-26, so we want to promote healthy habits like walking or jogging."

Asha Prasanna Kumar, Rotary District Governor 3190, inaugurated the event. Anju Bobby George was a huge hit amongst the crowd. Participants surrounded her throughout the event for selfies and photographs.

The organisers said that the route is considered as one of the most challenging in Bengaluru, traversing through the undulating roads of Rajarajeshwari Nagar and nearby areas. Quite a few runners who turned up this year reiterated the challenge in the route and had come to better their timings from the previous edition.
