13% rise in women voters in Karnataka

Women voters in the state have increased by 13% since the previous Assembly election, Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar said.

He was speaking at a walkathon organised by the Rainbow Children's Hospital, Marathahalli.

According to the final revision of the electoral roll, 2.44 crore of the 4.96 crore citizens are women. The gender ratio has improved from 958 females for every 1,000 males in 2013 to 972 women this year, Kumar said. Several events were organised  in the city on the occasion of the International Women's Day.  

The BMTC organised a celebration, during which chairperson Nagaraju Yadav honoured 57 women employees with cash awards and appreciation certificates in recognition of their outstanding services. The BMTC also extended financial help to a woman employee, who had lost her right leg, to get an artificial limb.
