Got the reward for my hard work: Vijay

On a bittersweet day when catches were dropped off his bowling, Vijay Shankar, the all-rounder, ended on a sweet note, walking away with the Man of the Match award.

"Feels really great. I have been working very hard. It is a reward for whatever I have been working at. Intensity with which I work, I feel this is just a start for me," he said. "As a cricketer, the constant thing is to keep improving and learning. I am looking forward to the next game."

While he is not a regular member of the team, Vijay enjoyed his time in the set up.

"The team management playsa a big part. They gave us plenty of freedom and they asked us to express ourselves which is important at this stage," said Vijay. "The pressure is going to be there. If we enjoy the pressure, we can do very well. If we put ourselves under pressure, it will land us in trouble."

On the field Vijay's spontaneous reaction to the dropped catches were of obvious disappointment, but he did not want to dwell on that. "The dropped catches did not affect me much. I was not thinking too much about those dropped chances. Dropping catches, I think is a part of the game. I would have loved to get my first wicket at that time but still, as cricketers, we know it is not easy to field under lights and with the white ball," he said. "We did not give much importance about that dropped catch."

Vijay was guilty of bowling two no-balls and also sent down three wides but he was not unduly alarmed. "Most of the extras were marginal. When we tried bowling the wide yorker, it was a bit away from the line. Obviously, the line belongs to the umpire. I think as bowlers, we can take that one extra yard in trying it out. Most of the time the batsmen try and go after the ball. I think we should stick to what we are doing. It has been successful in the last game. We were close in the last game as well."
