Local resident Anand said that the unit has been malfunctioning since its inception. "Parts of the unit are giving problems every now and then. Sometimes, the pipes break resulting in the leakage of water," he said.
APMC member Rangaswami urged to initiate action against the official and contractor who are responsible for the poor quality work. The unit was installed only two months ago, he pointed out.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Gurumurthy said that the administration is responsible for the wastage of public's money.
Panchayat Development officer said that the problem has not been addressed despite many requests made to the assistant executive engineer Delvi.
The public feels that the objective of the government to provide clean drinking water to people at an affordable cost is not fulfilled.
