The Congress on Sunday announced the names of former MLC L Hanumanthaiah, AICC spokesperson Nasir Hussain and KPCC general secretary G C Chandrashekar for the March 23 Rajya Sabha polls.

The Congress chose Dalit-Muslim-Vokkaliga as its caste combination. Hanumanthaiah, a Dalit poet, is also KPCC vice-president, Chandrashekar, a Vokkaliga leader, is close to state party president G Parameshwara. Hussain, from Ballari, is the party's Muslim face in the list of nominees.

The Congress can easily win two seats and needs a few extra votes for the third seat.

The BJP, which can win one seat, decided to renominate sitting MP Rajeev Chandrashekar.

The JD(S) does not have the required number of votes  to elect its candidate and business tycoon B M Farooq, who has already filed his nomination.
