Avengers: Infinity War drops its second trailer with a universal threat

Last Updated 17 March 2018, 06:29 IST

The second (and final) trailer of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War has finally dropped and with it, comes a plethora of things to dissect. Let's begin with the trailer itself.

1. Thanos wants to wipe out half the universe:

Right off the bat, the trailer makes a very concerning point: Thanos' quest for the Infinity Stones to erase half the universe, with Gamora (Zoe Saldana) making it abundantly clear that he will be able to do it with a 'snap of his fingers' as a shell-shocked Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) asks her what his name is.

2. Thanos claims the Space and Power Stones:

This will be of no surprise to anyone who saw Thor: Ragnarok and remembers Loki's deal with the Mad Titan in the first Avengers film, but Thanos has finally claimed the Space Stone, contained in the Tesseract. The trailer also shows what could very well be Thanos destroying Xandar to claim the Power Stone, which was revealed in its full destructive glory in Guardians of the Galaxy.

3. Welcome the Black Order:

Finally, the Children of Thanos come to light. Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive and the mighty Cull Obsidian (known as Black Hole in the comics) finally get a shot in the trailer, with Proxima seemingly pointing her spear at Loki in a threatening fashion just as Thanos casually shatters the Tesseract to claim his prize.

4. Tony's plan and the threat to the Stones' bearers on Earth:

Tony knows Thanos is coming for the Stones and decides to use Wakanda, the nation fueled by Vibranium, as a haven to protect Vision, who is powered by the Mind Stone, leading to one inevitable outcome: A hunt. The first trailer showed Vision being pinned down as Glaive attempts to pry the Mind Stone out of the android, and this trailer shows Ebony Maw using Strange's own power against him in an overwhelming manner. The Master of the Mystic Arts will have his work cut out for him, if nothing else.

5. Wakanda, the battleground:

Wakanda becomes a battleground to protect Vision from Thanos as the army of Outriders storms the formerly reclusive nation. Joining the Wakandans on the field are Steve Rogers, who no longer goes by 'Captain America', Black Widow, the Falcon, Bruce Banner, Wanda Maximoff and James Rhodes. The trailer also shows the new Hulkbuster, presumably piloted by Banner, rear its head for battle and promptly get torn down by a group of Outriders.

6. Thor, Rocket and Groot:

Thor shows off his might once again with a massive lightning bolt, leaving Rocket and Groot in awe, when just moments earlier in the trailer, his head is being squished by Thanos.

7. Titan, and a glimpse of the past:

It is known that the film will take the Avengers to space, and a recent coverage by Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the deceased alien world from the trailers is Titan, Thanos' homeworld. The trailer also shows Thanos taking a young Gamora under his tutelage as a group of Chitauri round up some civilians.

8. "I hope they remember you"

Thanos sounds eerily like a man on a mission, which was also covered in the EW coverage, which revealed that Titan died owing to an explosion of life, which Thanos was not allowed to contain. Soon after, the Titan deformity began seeing the pattern repeating everywhere else and decided to gather the Stones to balance life with death. He seemingly tells Tony that he hopes the Iron Man will be remembered, but Marvel is known to misdirect in trailers.

9. Rogers v Thanos:

The trailer ends with a shot of Rogers trying his best to stop Thanos, who looks clearly surprised that a mere human would be able to hold him. Things don't look too good for Rogers, though, as Thanos isn't even flinching while he is using all of his strength just to hold the Titan back.

A decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe has led to this. All roads converge here and some may not continue. Avengers: Infinity War releases worldwide on April 27.
