Last Updated 19 March 2018, 18:36 IST

The aim of the Congress is to defeat the BJP and save the nation, said MP and Congress state in-charge K C Venugopal.

"All Congress leaders will strive for the victory of the Congress candidates in the upcoming elections," said the MP.

Speaking to reporters at the district playground on Monday, he said, "Tickets will be provided to the candidates based on their ability to win. We will win more constituencies in Chikkamagaluru compared to the previous time."

Venugopal said that the first list of candidates will be released in the first week of April. All Congress members should unitedly strive towards the victory of the chosen candidate. Stringent action will be initiated against the members if they try to indulge in rebel activities for the loss of ticket.

Indira Gandhi's victory

He recalled that in 1977, Indira Gandhi won from Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency. This was a milestone in the comeback of Congress party in the country, he stressed.

AICC president Rahul Gandhi will take part in 'Janasheervada Yatre' in Chikkamagaluru on March 21. The day will find a prominent place in the history of Chikkamagaluru, K C Venugopal said and expressed his confidence in Congress party retaining power in the state. "The Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election 2018 will be a pathfinder for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections," he added.

Congress leaders monitored the preparatory works towards the 'Janasheervada Yatre'. Leaders B L Shankar, Dr D L Vijaykumar, Sachin Meega, B M Sandeep and M C Shivanandaswamy were present.
