A new in-charge Vice Chancellor will now head the Bangalore University(BU).
Prof I S Shivakumara, Dean, Faculty of Science and professor, Department of Mathematics is the fifth in-charge VC after Prof B Thimmegowda retired from the post in February 2017. Shivakumara took charge from the previous acting VC, V Sudesh. Sudesh had taken the charge in December 2017.
The string of in-charge VCs is due to a tussle between the higher education department and the Karnataka Governor over the names recommended for the role. The post has thus remained vacant. However, the higher education minister, Basavaraj Rayareddy has recently said that a new list of names has been sent to the Governor to select a VC from.
