Delay mars PG medical admissions on Day 1

Last Updated 19 March 2018, 20:03 IST

Students faced delays and chaos on the first day of the document verification for admission to postgraduate medical and dental seats, conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), on Monday.

Parents and students from different parts of the state and outside were inconvenienced when they had to wait for more than five hours for the process to begin. The document verification for 1,200 students was scheduled for the first day - between 9 am and 5.30 pm. However, nothing went according to plan.

A PG medical aspirant said, "We were at the location by 8.45 am and we finished only by 9 pm. They did not start the verification until 3 pm because they said they were facing server issues."

Even after 3 pm, the server issues continued and students had to spend the entire day at the centre, the student said. "It was big mess. They did not seem to have done any trial run. The computer operators were clueless themselves and we were not allowed to talk to any authorities," she said.

An official of the KEA attributed the server problems to online verification of revenue documents taken up this year. The official said that the problems would not resurface on the second day and the counselling will be as per schedule.
