The BJP workers protested during the inauguration of the private bus stand in town on Thursday, as the BJP MLA was not invited to the function of the private bus stand.

The situation turned chaotic, following a verbal fight between the BJP and Congress workers.

After inaugurating Indira Canteen, District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam, CMC president Kaveramma Somanna and Deputy Commissioner P I Srividya arrived at the bus stand for the inaugural programme.

Slogans

Zilla Panchayat president B A Harish, BJP leaders Mahesh Jaini, Satish, Arun Kumar and others shouted slogans when the minister was inaugurating the bus stop and pointed out that the local MLA was not invited. The project was sanctioned during BJP tenure. The inauguration is undertaken before competition of the work. There is a political motive behind the same, they said.

In opposition, Congress workers shouted slogans against BJP.

The incident resulted in a war of words between the members of the parties. When the situation turned worse, police intervened and sent the BJP members away.

Minister upset

An angry M R Seetharam said that he had invited MLA K G Bopaiah but Bopaiah had said that he could not make it due to a pre-planned programme in Bengaluru. Now, the BJP members are creating confusions, which is typical of the party, he said.

He, meanwhile, pointed out that even after being elected more than thrice, MLAs from the BJP had not been able to fulfil the demand for a private bus stand. Why are the people electing such people again and again, he wanted to know.

CMC president Kaveramma Somanna said that 75% of the work is complete and will finish by the next month. The work got delayed due to rains. A meeting of the Transport and the Police Department officials will be convened in the near future and arrangements will be done for the stoppage of buses in the bus stand, she said.

MLC Veena Acchaiah and ZP CEO Prashant Kumar Misra were present.
