German President to visit Chennai on March 25, 26

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will arrive in Chennai on Sunday on a two-day visit on the last leg of his India trip.

After wrapping up his talks with the Indian leadership on Saturday, Steinmeier will be in Chennai on Sunday and Monday the day being reserved for some sight seeing around the southern metropolis.

On his arrival in Chennai at around noon on Sunday, the German President will straight head to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Factory, a subsidiary of the German Daimler AG, in Oragadam, 57 km from here, for a visit. After taking a complete tour of the massive premises, which sells commercial vehicles in the name of Bharat Benz, Steinmeier will interact with top executives of the company.

The German President will also visit the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology's research park in Chennai and will interact with researchers before undertaking a field visit of the park. Sources said Steinmeier will close his official engagements by holding a closed-door meeting with top business executives from South India.

On Monday, the President will visit Mamallapuram, the ancient historic town known for its stone temple and other works of architecture, before heading back. Security has been tightened in and around Chennai in view of the German president's visit.
