'Clean your car' with just three liters of water

Now, a car wash does not need more than five litres of water. A group of engineering youths have come up with a technology to wash cars with minimum water. While a hatchback car needs only three litres of water, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) would consume five litres.

Chetan Somashekar, Vikas Raj, Shardha Prasad, Sachin Srikanth and Ganesh Prasad, all engineering graduates, are the brain behind the innovation. While Somashekar and Raj are masters in Automotive Service Technology and Processes, Sachin Srikanth holds a masters in Computational Mechanics, all the three pursued their masters degree in Germany and also worked for a multi-national automotive company there. Similarly, Ganesh Prasad is a bachelor in Mechanical Engineering while Shardha Prasad holds a masters in Bio-Chemistry.

The group wants to show to the society that there are means to save water. Thus it has come up with the idea. Raj said that they wished to give back something to the society and planned the technology for car wash in 2017. "Karnataka experienced severe drought in 2017. Thus, we thought of introducing a concept which saves water. A normal car wash requires nearly 180 litres of water. Also, the cleaning process consumes a lot of time," he said.

The new technology not only saves water, but also, saves time. The group has launched 'Clean Our Car', Door Step Car Wash Service. The mobile car wash vehicle, with necessary equipment reaches the doorsteps and takes up the cleaning work. The team takes 45 minutes to 60 minutes to clean a vehicle. Since October, the team has washed more than 800 vehicles with only 2,400 litres of water. They have saved nearly one lakh litres of water.

Natural fruit solution

Raj said that they use natural fruit solutions to clean the exteriors of the vehicle.

"When we spray the solution, it soften the dust particles. With the help of a microfiber cloth, the dust is removed.
Different cloth is used for different parts, such as windshield, body, tyre and engine," he said.

According to him, the method will neither harm the paint nor damage the vehicle body as no chemical is used.
