JOIN USPhilosophy is the mother of all knowledge, former VC of Mangalore and Goa Universities B Sheik Ali said.
Delivering his valedictory address during the three-day seminar on 'Hundred Years of Philosophy in Mysore University - An Overview', organised by the Department of Philosophy, here, recently, he said, Philosophy is ever old, and also ever new. "Philosophy teaches how to live and be happy. Science is knowledge, whereas Philosophy is wisdom. Science gives information, while Philosophy gives insights into life. Indian Philosophy speaks about the purity of heart," he said.
Recalling the All Indian Philosophical Conference of December 1932, he mentioned, "Then ruler of Mysore, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, said, we have ruined time and religion. Pleasure comes when we live for others. A cow eats grass and gives milk, but it never drinks it. Philosophy is two types, speculative and analytical. And, Sanskrit is the mother of all languages and knowledge".
"Reaching one's destiny with the help of some philosophy is important in all forms of life," he added.
Chairman of the Philosophy department S Venkatesh, professors M Gangadhar, V N Sheshagiri Rao and M Daniel were present.
