Leader of the Opposition, M Nagraj said the Congress Party will initiate a debate on water shortage that has hit the City hard.

“The sitting on Friday will discuss the increasing water shortage. We have already asked the Mayor to involve the BWSSB officials to answer queries on measures taken by them to resolve the crisis,” said Nagraj. The Council sitting on Friday, is the first session after the swearing-in of the 198 corporators and election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Protest at BWSSB

Nagraj on Thursday held a demonstration in front of the BWSSB office against the irregular water supply.

With support of MLA Narendra Babu, Nagraj said the acute shortage of water has hit many wards including Nandini Layout, which he represents.

“Middle and lower class people live in my ward. While some complain of irregular water supply, others are fed up of no supply of water in pockets of Nandini Layout,” said Nagraj.
He alleged that there were as many as 40-45 borewells which have not been repaired. Two other Congress corporators from Mahalakshmi Layout also took part in the protest.

Following the agitation, BWSSB chairman P B Ramamurthy accepted a memorandum and promised to look into the matter.

Massive demonstration

Over 150 residents in and around BTM Layout, along with their corporator G N R Babu on Thursday staged a massive demonstration outside the local BWSSB sub-division office protesting against irregular water supply for the past two months.
