A thief trying to rob mobile phones and laptops from a women's paying guest accommodation in Kaikondanahalli on Sarjapur Road died after falling from the building's fourth floor.

The police are yet to identify the thief. The body is kept at the mortuary at the St John's Hospital and a post-mortem is yet to be performed.

The police said the incident happened around 3.30 am at the Lakshminarayana women's paying guest accommodation on Sarjapur Road.

The thief, whom the paying guests say could be in his late twenties, had sneaked into their four-storied building possibly from the adjacent terrace.

The thief reached into the room through the window to take away mobile phones and laptops, but the police said a few women who were asleep woke up to the sound,
saw the thief on the other side of the window and screamed.

The thief panicked and tried jumping on to the adjacent terrace, but slipped and fell to the ground, the women told the police.

He lay on the ground with serious injuries until the police arrived and shifted him to St John's Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The Bellandur police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating further.
