Seminar on modern art begins today

Mangalore University N G Pavanje chair in fine arts, in association with Karnataka Lalithakala Academy, will organise a national seminar on 'Art and Cultural Heritage of Coastal Karnataka and Evolution of Modern Art in the coastal district of Karnataka' at Roshani Nilaya, Mangaluru on April 6 and 7.

Addressing reporters here on Thursday, artist N S Pattar said that an exhibition of artworks by young artists will also be organised on the occasion.

The programme will be inaugurated by Karnataka Craft Council former secretary Anasuya Pavanje at 9.30 am. Senior artist P S Punchittaya, Artiste Forum (Udupi) president Ramesh Rao will be the guests of honour. Karnataka Lalitakala Academy president Prof M J Kamalakshi will deliver the introductory remarks, researcher Dr Pundikai Ganapaiah Bhat will deliver the keynote address while Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr K Byrappa will preside.

The seminar will include discussions by experts on various topics. Dr Saigeeta Hegde, Dr Varadesh Hiregange, Janardan Havanje, Subhash Basu, Deepika Shetty, Dr Ashalata S Suvarna, Upadhyaya Moodubelle, Shantamani M, Prof Suresh Jayaram, Dr Unnikrishnan, Shalmali Shetty and others will take part.

The valedictory programme will be held on April 7 at 4.30 pm. Senior artiste Ganesh Somayaji, CAVA (Mysuru) former dean Ramadas Adyantaya, Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi president Kotiprasad Alva will be the guests of honour and Karnataka Lalitakala Academy president Prof M J Kamalakshi will preside.
