Madikeri flower show draws good response

The visual extravaganza to conclude today

The flower show has been appreciated by the public. The statue of Mother Cauvery made out of 12,000 roses, Globe made up of 4,000 jerbera flowers, flowers brought from Ooty, anthurium collections of Kumar of Hakathur, Abdul Kalam, Bhagath Singh, Gangubai Hanagal, Indira Gandhi carved out of water melon by Harish have attracted the attention of the people.

The flower show was inaugurated on Saturday and around 5,000 tourists have visited Raja Seat between 4 pm and 8 pm on Saturday itself. “We have received overwhelming response from the tourists,” said Horticulture Department Assistant Director Pramod.

“The organisers have spent Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh for organising the flower show. State Bank of Mysore (SBM), State Bank of India (SBI) and other organisations have donated a sum of Rs one lakh. Raja Seat Development Committee has borne Rs 2 lakh. The remaining money will be spent by the horticulture department,” he informed.

Even on Sunday, there was good response to flower show. By 3 pm, tickets worth Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 have been sold. The entry ticket has been increased to Rs 10 from Rs 5 for flower show.

Along with viewing flower show, one can also view nursery plants at the stalls in Gandhi Maidan. They can be purchased too.  Dr S Anand has been deployed as Special officer by the horticulture department for flower show.

The flower show will conclude on Monday at 5 pm. Sauranha Nrithya Kala Parishat will stage dance programme at 6 pm.  “Let there be some more flower shows from next year,” said a bank employee from Bangalore.
