The syndicate also approved in principle, an initiative to incorporate IT based security enhancing system for undergraduate examinations and evaluation. The varsity has already issued a tender notice inviting IT companies interested in implementing the smart card system. The smart card will primarily be a single window system of access for students.

The card will contain all details about the student and will help in matters such as attendance, mark sheets, degree certificates, hall tickets and even curriculum related information. The card will be made available to students at a nominal fee with all colleges affiliated to the Bangalore University being given card readers.

Exam reforms

The syndicate also approved a proposal to solidify the examination process for undergraduate students by enhancing IT- based security. Sources at the varsity said that the IT-based security solution will be implemented at examination and evaluation centres to prevent malpractices. This move is yet another in a series of examination reforms undertaken by the varsity under Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev to clean up and restore credibility to the examination process.

Syndicate members also discussed a proposal by the Indian Centre for Social Transformation (ICST) to participate in the examination reforms of the varsity. The proposal included a thorough study on the strengths and weaknesses of the existing system. However, the discussion was inconclusive with a decision on the proposal being deferred to a later meeting.

Members also urged the Registrars and the V-C to work together and co-operate in the daily functioning of the varsity. The syndicate members criticised the two parties for their feud and urged them to focus on working towards the betterment of the university.
