SKDRDP to rejuvenate polluted tanks in dist

Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has chalked out a plan to rejuvenate the polluted tanks in the district under ‘Namma kere—Namma arogya’ programme.

Addressing a press meet, SKDRDP District Director Jayaram Nellithaya said Chikmagalur district has 1,600 tanks. Of which, 450 tanks are utilised by more than 10,000 population.
However, the tanks are getting polluted as public throw the wastes and wash clothes in the tank. ‘Namma kere—Namma arogya’ is being chalked out to create an awareness among people on the need to preserve these tanks. The programme on an experiment basis will be inaugurated at Annigeri in Kadur taluk on June 12.

The programme will be carried out in association with district administration and gram panchayats.

As many as 540 Pragathi Bandhu have been formed in the district. The members will be given training in health, cleanliness and social evils as part of the programme.
Tarikere taluk project officer B Jayanth, Project officer of Kadur P Muralidhar, Chikmagalur project officer M Lakshman, Koppa taluk officer A Seenappa were present.
