Now, Congress eye is on BBMP elections
The first challenge the Congress has to face after electing new CLP leader is BBMP elections. Union minister of Health Gulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka, held a meeting with senior leaders of the party regarding the preparations for the elections.
According to sources Azad suggested the leaders to get ready for the polls and take all sections of society into confidence. He reportedly told the meeting that though the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections was poor, the party’s strength at the grassroots level was strong. There was still scope for increasing its base in the urban areas, particularly in Bangalore.
Sources said that in the meeting Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byregowda suggested that union ministers keep visiting the state and hold public meetings to convey the Centre’s welfare programmes to the public. He also suggested Azad, who holds Health ministry, to conduct surprise visits to hospitals in Bangalore so that such measures could help the Congress win confidence of the public.
Union minister Veerappa Moily, Mallikarjun Kharge, Muniyappa, KPCC president Deshpande and working president D K Shivkumar were present in the meeting.
