Awareness on tobacco

 The awareness programme will be inaugurated by Mayor Rajani Dugganna.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, Department of Community Medicine Head Dr Nagarj said the theme selected by WHO for No Tobacco Day is ‘gender and tobacco with an emphasis on marketing to women’,  he informed.

KMC Professor of Community Medicine Dr Unnikrishnan said “Quit Tobacco India project aims at integrating tobacco into the undergraduate medical education programme of five medical colleges in South India and creating a generation of doctors who are both sensitive and knowledgeable in matters related to tobacco, engaging in tobacco related community based action research for a’ tobacco free household’ initiative to save women and children from adverse health effects of second hand smoke. In Mangalore, KMC has selected Bolur for a survey to find out the prevalence of smoking and to make smoke free household.  The project is funded by the Fogarty International Centre of NIH, USA through the University of Arizona and Sree Chitra Institute of Trivandrum in India.
