'Quarrying at Marle village due to MLA's pressure'

Last Updated 01 June 2010, 16:50 IST

Addressing a press conference, he said that the district administration has shown injustice on contractors succumbing to MLC and Congress leader A V Gayathri Shanthegowda and MLA and BJP leader C T Ravi. The Task Force led by Deputy Commissioner has given ‘safe zone’ certificate for the lands bearing survey numbers 134 and 188 at Marle, he said. “The district administration has violated several directives of Supreme Court while issuing licence for quarrying,” he charged.

As per rules, stone crushers should not allowed within 2 kilometers radius of residential area, places of worship, school and rivers. At the same time, there should be atleast 1.5 kilometer distance between national highways and crushers, 500 mts from link road, 1 km from agriculture land.

Surprisingly at Marle village, all these aspects have been neglected while providing permission for crusher and the Task Force too neglected this aspect, he said. “There are two temples in very close proximity to the quarry. There are Ramanahalli, Kurubarahalli and many residential areas around the quarry,” he pointed and added that Chikmagalur MLA has shows his power in Kadur taluk too by providing permission for mining for his close aides. He said a letter will be written to the DC demanding withdrawal of the permission at the earliest, failing which the will move to court.JD(S) District President H H Devaraj was present.
