When it comes to chaats, undoubtedly, Karnataka Bhel House on Bazaar Street in Chamarajpet is quite popular in and around South Bangalore. Established in 1975, the eatery is known for pani puri, masala puri, bhel puri, dahi aloo puri, sev puri and softy ice-creams.The interesting thing is that the service here is really fast.

Started by Prabhulingadev as a means of livelihood, the 35-year-old food junction has been maintaining the same quality and taste since its inception. KBH is a one-room establishment with four tables. The shop opens only at 5 pm and closes at 10 pm. Within this small time, it witnesses brisk business and people don’t mind enjoying the chaats standing on the pavement.

Among all the items, masala puri is in great demand. “Nowhere in the City will you get such tasty and crispy masala puri. We prepare all the masala powders on our own and maintain consistency in quality. Once you sink your teeth into the fare, you will keep coming here,” says B P Virupaksha, son of Prabhulingadev, who runs the shop along with his brother Ravishankar.People from all walks of life savour the chaats here and 90 percent of them are the regulars.

Brisk business happens between 7 pm to 9 pm. Most of the kids likes to taste softy cones, which are available in five different flavours. “KBH is always full of people but I have never waited for more than a minute to get my food. It may be one person or a group of people but food is served within few seconds. That’s why we like to eat here,” says Shankar, who was having food with his family.

Yashawant, who is a regular client, feels that the stuff here is top-notch and consistent. “I don’t mind standing on the pavement to relish my favourite masala puri. I introduced the shop to many of my friends and now it’s a popular hang-out place for us,” he explains.
