June transfer plan upsets Govt staff

The Cabinet in its meeting on Friday, reportedly, buckling under the pressure from the Bellary Reddy brothers, agreed to allow transfers in Revenue Department, held by Karunakara Reddy. Deputy Commissioners are given authority to transfer those who have been working at one place for five years or more.

The State Government Employees’ Association has taken strong objection to the government’s move to transfer officials.

Association president L Byrappa said that representatives of the association would meet the Chief Minister on Thursday and appeal him to withdraw the decision.

“If the government wishes to transfer officials it should do in the month of May itself. Now it is already June and admissions to schools and colleges are over. If officers are transferred now they will find it difficult to get admissions to schools in new places,” he said. The Association would take a decision on holding protests if the government does not fulfil its demand, he added.

The Revenue Department has gathered information from each district of such employees. According to reports submitted by districts, there are 6,424 officials working at same place for five years or more. Of them 335 are facing inquiries on various charges of dereliction of duty.

G S Narayanaswamy, Revenue Department secretary, said that the Cabinet decision has not yet reached the department.
