Locals seek better ferry shelter at Hangarakatte
Travel on pristine clear waters amidst the beauty of nature can be a memorable experience. However, it can be dangerous too.
The plight of those who travel daily for one kilometre between Hangarakatte and Kodibengre in a ferry is no different. Nearly 200 to 250 passengers travel daily in the boat. The travel is a romantic experience and it can be dangerous too.
There is no road connectivity for the residents of Hangarakatte and Kodibengre in Brahmavar, following which the Kodi Gram Panchayat has provided boat facility to the residents for the last 10 years. One can enjoy the natural beauty while ferrying between Kodibengre and Hangarakatte for five minutes. However, one needs to be cautious while getting down from the ferry. The ferry shelter made of wooden planks too is old and on the verge of collapse.
Locals feel that there is a need for strong ferry shelter. At the same time, travelling in ferry during monsoon is not safe owing to the strong winds. In the interest of hundreds of passengers, safety life jackets must be provided to the boat in case of emergency. Two experienced boatmen have been appointed by the Gram Panchayat to take care of the boat. The Gram Panchayat should take measure to regularise their services, feel locals.
