Residents of Bethamanagala and surrounding villages are up in arms over the proposal to handover the job of supplying the water from Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board to Robertson Pet CMC.

In a meeting held here on Saturday, it was decided to lock the office of the Board and not to allow the working of pump house as a mark of protest. It was also decided to launch struggle of any kind to resist the proposal.

The residents  of 160 villages had sacrificed for construction of Bethamanagala reservoir and extended all support for supply of water to Kolar Gold Fields. However, the very object of constructing the reservoir has been put at stake with the proposal to entrust the responsibility to City Municipality.

A similar effort in 1997 was dropped following widespread protest. The Executive Engineer who made the earlier attempt is at it again after a come back and he should be kept under suspension, the meeting demanded.

It was also resolved to take a delegation to the chairman of Karntaka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, Krishnaiah Setty, to submit a memorandum against the proposal.
