Assets case: Chautala, sons booked
Three months after a CBI charge sheet against former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his two MLA sons charged them of possessing disproportionate assets worth several crores of rupees, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now booked the trio.
The father and two sons –Ajay and Abhay- have been booked under the stringent Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2009 for possessing assets disproportionate to their income.
The ED case has come a day before Chautala was to leave for the USA to get his deformed left knee and ankle treated. Earlier, a Delhi court had granted him permission to go to the US on June 3.
The PMLA empowers the directorate with freezing assets of the accused.
The CBI had earlier filed a charge sheet in a disproportionate assets case against Chautala, the Indian National Lok Dal chief, who was state chief minister between 1999 and 2005 and is currently leader of opposition in the Haryana Assembly. Chautala has been accused of amassing assets worth Rs 6.09 crore more than his known source of income between 1993 and 2005.
