Gowda slams Haveri police firing probe report

JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda on Friday warned that the BJP Government will collapse if it accepts the justice Jagannatha Shetty Commission report on the Haveri police firing incident.

Addressing reporters, he alleged: “the Commission has given the report as the Government wanted it to be. The Commission has said that those who were killed in the firing were goons. It has failed to maintain the dignity of an inquiry commission.”

If the Commission was under the impression that its report would save the Government, it was wrong. In turn it has done a lot of damage to the Government by giving a report that is far from truth, he alleged.

Gowda said the media has reported all details of the Haveri firing incident. “I wonder on what basis the Commission came to the conclusion that those who protested against non-availability of fertilisers, were goons,” he wondered.

Siddalingappa Churi, who was killed in the firing, was a senior BJP worker. He was the chairman of Agriculture Cooperative Bank. He had agriculture land in his name. He was in Haveri to buy fertiliser when the firing took place. Similarly, another victim, Puttappa, had mortgaged his jewellry to buy fertiliser. But the Commission has termed them as goons, Gowda said.
