JOIN USConducted by Padukone Sports Management, the qualifying rounds of the Rs 3 lakh prize money event will conclude on Sunday, with 600 matches to be played every day for three days. The main draw of the 12-event tournament will begin on Monday and the final will be played on Wednesday.
“This is one of the biggest tournaments in India,” said chief referee Mohammed Ali. “We face a lot of problems when we handle numbers like this, but we can’t restrict entries when it is the season-opening tournament.”
Given the huge number matches a day and just ten courts, the ninth edition of the tournament will initially revert to the old points format.
“We have taken Badminton Association of India’s permission to have best-of-three games over 15 points each,” said Ali.
