A psychedelic experience

Alternative Rock

Alliance Francaise gave the music lovers of the City something to enjoy as two popular and well-known bands entertained the young peppy crowd recently.

First up was Drones from the Turbine, a group which plays psychedelic and alternative rock. They entertained the small but lively gathering for about 45 minutes with their own compositions.

Anand, the vocalist, songwriter and guitarist from the group, says that they hope to release their CD in a couple of months. “Our group was formed by a spontaneous coming together of good friends. Pranav, the bass player and I  had been jamming for quite a while and then Jaydev and Nithin joined us. Aditya and Ashish too became a part of the group and added their synergy and flavour to our music. Together, we give our audience what we like to call an ‘audio-visual psychedelic experience’,” he explains.

Among the songs they played were Lucid Dreaming, Boom Shankar, Chaos Cherry and Sex in the Sky. The next band to take the stage was Lounge Piranha an alternative/post-rock band from Bangalore. They already have a large community of fans and regular listeners who follow their music. The band played an interesting mix of alternative, punk, grunge and post grunge rock.

“I personally think they are the coolest Indian alternative rock band I have seen. They also have a distinctive  and very trippy sound and are very adept at fusing different genres of rock. My personal favourite head-banging track is Gun Song by Kamal Singh. I also really like their track Ebb, which has a beautiful sound with a flowing rhythm. It’s a song you can sing along with,” says Shankar Patil, a big fan of the group.
