Govt to submit status report on BMIC to SC
Chief Minister Yeddyurappa holds high-level meeting
A high-level committee on the BMIC project headed by the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, on Sunday decided to submit the project status report to the Supreme Court on June 29, as per its directions.
The Committee, which met at the Chief Minister’s home office Krishna amid protests by farmers, also decided to seek the permission of the court to empower a Chief Secretary headed committee to take appropriate decisions on all issues related to the controversial project, sources said.
Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), the project promoters’ Managing Director Ashok Kheny was also present in the meeting.
Based on the NICE’s contempt petition against the Government, the Apex Court had directed the latter to hold a high-level committee meeting headed by the Chief Minister within six weeks and submit a status report on the project.
Subsequently, the State PWD had repeatedly asked the NICE to furnish necessary information on the project so that it can file the status report.
Report sought
The PWD wanted the NICE to give the exact alignment of the expressway, cadastral maps, survey numbers of land required and others.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa said the status report of the project will be filed before the SC; however he refused to divulge any details.
Earlier, the police took nearly 55 farmers into custody on Kumara Krupa Road to prevent them from staging a protest against the meeting in front of the Krishna.
The farmers, whose land will be taken over for the project were arguing that the government should have invited them for the meeting.
