Tokyo, June 30 (PTI)

Sony Corporation on Wednesday said certain units of its 'Vaio' brand of laptops sold globally, may face overheating problems and the firm has provided a software on its website to avoid the same.

In a statement to its customers, Sony said,"recently, we became aware of a potential issue affecting certain units within the Vaio notebook PCs' F11 and CW2 series."

"In rare instances, these notebook computers may overheat due to a potential malfunction of the internal temperature management system, resulting in deformation of the product's keyboard or external casing, and a potential burn hazard to consumers," the statement added.

According to a report, in The Wall Street Journal about 5,35,000 Vaio laptops may be in the danger of facing such a malfunction. The WSJ report also stated,"Sony will recall 2,59,000 units in the US, 1,03,000 in Europe, 1,20,000 in Asia and 52,000 in Japan."

According to the company statement, a software has been provided on Sony's website to eliminate the problem, which has to be downloaded by Vaio users.

The customers would have to install the firmware update which has been specifically designed to prevent the potential overheating symptom, the statement added.
