“He was working in training department imparting knowledge on working of the project and skill development. He was not a scientist in the Kaiga project,” disclosed Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, Director (Operations), G Nageswar Rao.
Dismissing the probabilities of terrorists abducting Mahalingam to lay hands on any “classified information” Rao said that Mahalingam was serving as Scientific Officer-G and was not a scientist associated with Kaiga project. He was addressing a press meet at Kaiga residential complex here on Friday.
Replying to a question, Rao said that Central Industrial Security Force has been providing security to Kaiga atomic station where as private security agencies man the residential complex. Denying any security lapse, he said that the security will be beefed up at the residential complex too in future.
SP Raman Gupta said three teams comprising Police, CISF and Forest department officers have been formed to trace Mahalingam. The team has been conducting search operations on the banks of river Kali. Dense forests and intermittent rains have hampered the search, he said. Mahalingam, went missing three days ago after he was last seen going for a morning walk.
