Govt launches guidelines for tourists’ safety
Even as reports of rape of foreign nationals keep coming in sporadically, the government has devised a code of conduct that promises safety for tourists from sexual as well as other forms of exploitation.
The code of conduct for “safe and honourable” tourism in the country, released by Tourism Minister Kumari Selja here on Thursday, promises “dignity, safety and freedom from exploitation” of both tourists and local residents.
The code, which will be implemented in collaboration with all stake holders, also aims at preventing prostitution, sex tourism and sexual exploitations of women and children apart from stopping activities like forced or involuntary drug use, manipulated and incorrect information, and cultural and social intolerance.
Releasing the code, Selja said her ministry was working in close coordination with law-enforcing agencies to strengthen law and order not only keeping in mind the Commonwealth Games, but thereafter too.
