“This decision could have been taken much earlier and that would have spared tremendous cost, money, time and most importantly the families of martyrs and veterans the humiliation and trauma they faced due to the unseemly controversy,” he added.
Chandrashekar apologised to the families of the martyrs and said: “I want to reassure the families of these martyrs that a large majority of citizens have the greatest regard and respect for them and their loved ones and I shall continue to serve their cause and draw attention to their sacrifices and national service.” Some of the residents on the contrary expressed joy over the move pointing out that it will help preserve greenery around their area. They were also quick to add that this by no means would mean they disrespect the heroes who sacrificed their lives for us.
