A large number of police had surrounded the compound, and gunshots could be heard from inside the compound, and AFP reporter on the scene said.<br /><br />A police officer said "at least three armed Taliban have entered the office," but declined to comment on casualties.<br /><br />Police said they believed that some guards on the gate may have been killed as the militants entered the compound.<br /><br />Omar said, "The initial information we have is that 20 locals and policemen are wounded."<br /><br />The siege began at about 5:30am (0100 GMT).
