Officials’ transfer may hamper govt work

Madikeri: July 2, DHNS:

Many honest officers were shifted from Kodagu district

Transfer of officials in Kodagu may hamper the smooth functioning of district administration to certain extent. While Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mirza Akbarulla and AC Dr N Shivashankar were already been transferred, many other officials too are being replaced in the district.

District Social Welfare Officer Rajesh Gowda, Backward and Minority Welfare Department Deputy Director H G Prabhakar, Public Works Department Assistant Executive Engineer Sathyanarayana Rao, Integrated Tribal Development Programme Co-ordinator L G Ghanti, CHESCOM Executive Engineer Lakshmipathi and Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Sheharbanu were already transferred to different locations. Sources in the District Administration informed that many officails in various departments too will be transferred soon.

Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Sheharbanu had requested a transfer to Chikkabellapura following dissent with a local people’s rerpesentative. Speaking to Deccan Herald Sheharbanu said, “I did not come to Madikeri with the intention of earning money. I had served for the district honestly and I sought transfer on my own. No one should take up the issue of my transfer for their publicity.”
“Though I wanted to continue my service in Madikeri, some people did not allow me to work here. Hence, I was forced to seek transfer from here,” she said before leaving Madikeri.

Many officials in the district too agree the fact that the work atmosphere in Kodagu is not favourable for officials. Meanwhile, some officials manage to obtain transfer orders to their home districts immediately after their appointment. Earlier, incessant rains in Kodagu was detering officials from staying in the district. Though rain in Kodagu was comparatively less in recent years, officials obtain transfers within months after their arrival.

District Social Welfare Officer Rajesh Gowda, who was considered as one of the honest officials and Integrated Tribal Development Programme Co-ordinator L G Ghanti, who had flair for writing, had brought several reformations in administration.
Ghanti was striving to implement the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act in the district. He was also taking initiative for the distribution of title deeds to tribals.

Meanwhile, there was good opinion among people’s representatives and officials about Backward and Minority Welfare Department Deputy Director H G Prabhakar.
Though PWD Assistant Executive Engineer Sathyanarayana Rao was transferred, he has not been posted to any new place. Many departments suffer setback due to the transfer of honest officials.
