<p>The house of the official -- B V Selvaraj, a 1981 batch IAS officer of Union Territory cadre and at present working as Principal Secretary in the Ministry -- was also sealed by the CBI, the agency said in a statement here today.<br /><br />Its spokesman said the premises of Selvaraj was searched in connection with investigation of a case registered in 2010 against Abrahum Varickamackal, an 1998 IAS officer of same cadre, the then Collector of Lakshadweep S Attakoya, Superintending Engineer Lakshadweep PWD Achada Ahammed Haji, Dr K P Muthukoya (both Board Members of PWD) and Mohammed Kassim, a private contractor.<br /><br />The agency conducted searches in the official and residential premises in Delhi and Pondichery of Selvaraj, the then Administrator of Lakshadweep.The allegation as per the FIR is that Abrahum, Attakoya and other public servants abused their official position during the period 2006-2009 and entered into a criminal conspiracy with Kassim.<br />In pursuance to the conspiracy, the CBI alleged that Abrahum unauthorisedly awarded contracts to Kassim for supply of river sand and granite chips from the main land to the Islands of Lakshadweep.<br /><br />Though the contract amount of Rs 92.72 lakh was beyond the financial competence of Abrahum, he awarded the same to him, as the Chairman of Lakshadweep Building Development Board (LBDB).<br /><br />Though Selvaraj, the then Administrator of Lakshadweep, initially refused to ratify the decision of the Board citing serious financial irregularities he joined the conspiracy at a later stage and allowed the matter to rest and in return accepted huge illegal gratification from Kassim during this period, the agency said.<br /><br />During investigation, the CBI spokesman claimed to have "found many incriminating evidence" to establish the receipt of favours by Abrahum and Selvaraj from Kassim.<br />He said it had also received documents showing that Kassim had spent lakhs of money towards repair and renovation of a three storeyed house of Selvaraj in Pondicherry.<br /></p>
