HC notice to KSPCB

Last Updated 14 June 2009, 18:16 IST

The resolution sought to regularise the industries, whose licenses were cancelled for causing  pollution, by levying administration charges.

The Court was hearing a petition filed by former Mayor P R Ramesh, who had challenged this stating it was contrary to the Water (Prevention and Control) of Pollution Act - 1974.

The petitioner, citing a GO,  said that KSPCB cannot give its consent unless the industries have Environment Clearence. Therefore, the administrative charges suggested by the KSPCB was a sheer violation and would compound the offence by polluters.
