Dy Mayor pulls up Birth and Death Dept officials

Last Updated 20 July 2010, 19:17 IST

In a surprise visit to the Citizen Service Centres in the City, Dayanand found people running from one end to the other in a bid to procure their certificates at the Mayo Hall office. The inspection came in the wake of a series of complaints received by the deputy mayor against the Life and Death Certificates Department. Dayanand, during his inspection, issued a stern warning to the officials to pull up their socks.  “Widows seeking death certificates to claim insurance and pension are made to run from one place to another. I cannot approve of this attitude and it should be mended,” Dayanand said.

BBMP Joint Director (Statistics) B Shankarappa, in his defence said that the problem was persistent among citizens who were producing documents which required to be verified before issuing the certificates. “If an applicant produced the required documents it would
help BBMP to serve them better,” said Shankarappa.

Directing Shankarappa to provide swift relief to the citizens in procuring their certificates, Dayanand agreed to some of the problems faced by the concerned department, in relation to shortage of staff and other stationary products for their effective functioning.
