<p>Keeping in mind the manpower requirements of such firms and the dreams of youngsters who aspire to be global citizens, the Department of Foreign Languages at Bangalore University offers courses in more than 10 foreign languages. <br /><br />The department has developed the content of its courses by working with embassies of various countries and a few well-known MNCs in Bangalore. <br /><br />The department has developed a ‘Language Lab’ for practical sessions. They also plan to start Spoken Language courses in all 10 languages. <br /><br />Each of these programmes will be a 40-hour course designed for executives/ corporate/tourists and students. Currently, the department also conducts weekend courses in foreign languages.<br /><br />French & Japanese <br /><br />The two languages are available at four levels:<br /><br />*Advanced Diploma<br />* Higher Diploma<br />* Diploma <br />*Certificate Course<br /><br />The department offers an MA in French. The four-semester course covers Language Basics, Literature, Translations, Functional French & Methodology. The Advanced Diploma, an eight-month course, covers:<br /><br />* Functional French<br />* Translations<br />* Introduction to French Literature.<br />* Introduction to the French Civilisation.<br /><br />The Higher Diploma offers spoken language skills, translations, and functional language skills. The Certificate Course is only an introduction to French.<br /><br />German, Italian, Spanish and Korean <br /><br />The four languages are available at three different levels, and each of these levels has an eight-month progra-mme. <br />* Higher Diploma<br />* Diploma<br />* Certificate Course<br /><br />The Higher Diploma covers functional skills, spoken language skills and translations. While the Diploma is an advanced course, the Certificate Course is an introductory-level course to the language.<br /><br />Portuguese & Chinese <br /><br />The two languages are taught at two levels for eight months each.<br />* Diploma <br />* Certificate Course<br /><br />Finnish and Russian <br /><br />The two languages are taught as eight-month, introductory Certificate Courses only.<br />The department also conducts events such as an International Language Fair, Japan Habba, Japanese Speech Contest and Idole Indienne: French Music Contest every year.<br /><br />Admissions and Eligibility: <br /><br />Admissions to BU’s foreign language courses closes on July 31, 2010 and is based on a first-cum-first-served basis.
