Dalit Sangarsha Samiti demands justice for night soil workers

Addressing the protesters’ the Samiti State Unit Coordinator K C Rajakanth said, “The practice of carrying night soil or human excreta was wrong and the workers need to be given more socially respectful jobs. The government should provide justice and should ban the practice of carrying human excreta.”

 The protesters also demanded suspension of Town Municipal Council Officers for harassing community members and also demanded rehabilitation facility. He warned State government of violent protests if it fails to take immediate action in this issue.
The Samiti District unit Coordinator C G Gangappa, G Narayanaswamy, B B Anand , C M Muniyappa, Narasimham- urthy, B V Venkataramana, Narasimhappa, N Venkatesh, N Muniswamy and others were present at the protest.

Memorandum submitted
The members of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti submitted a memorandum to Governor through Assistant Commissioner demanding ban on manual disposal of night soil by Bhangis in Savanur in Haveri.

The government should provide basic amenities including free education to Bhangi children, they added.The government should provide protection to dalits and safeguard their interests, they added.

The government should stop the move to evict Bhangis who are residing in the Savanur for more than 70 years and create an environment where they can live with dignity, they added.

The protesters submitted the memorandum to Assistant Commissioner R S Peddaiah. Samiti’s Venkatapura Sathyam, Harohalli Ravi and others were present on the occasion.
