Belgaum at flood risk as M'rashtra rivers swell

Though heavy rainfall has receded in Raibag, Chikkodi, Sankeshwar, and Hukkeri taluks in the district, flood situation has continued in Raibag taluk and other areas due to incessant rains in Maharashtra.

Aralagundi bridge across Hiranyakeshi river near Sankeshwar is still submerged, and road connectivity with some parts of Maharashtra is still cut. Old bridge at Khanapur is also submerged due to heavy rains since last one week.

Raibag Tahsildar Praveen Bagewadi inspected the flood situation in Krishna river near Kudachi on Tuesday. He has instructed officials to visit villages and to submit report about the flood situation and also about the condition of villagers. He instructed the nodal officers to keep boats ready in Kudachi and surrounding villages, and announce holiday for schools when required.

Rainfall has slightly reduced in the river catchment areas in Chikodi taluk and Sahyadri ranges in Maharashtra from Monday night. However, 1,28,930 cusec of water is entering the State through Rajapur barrage on Krishna River. Hiranyakeshi river is still in spate, and four houses have collapsed at Sankeshwar on Monday night.
Bagalkot, Bijapur, Belgaum, and Dharwad districts received drizzling, while no rainfall has been reported in Bellary, Gadag, Uttara Kannada, and Haveri districts.


The intensity of rainfall lessened in Tirthahalli and Sagar taluks on Tuesday, after the heavy rain on Monday. But there was no let-up in monsoon fury in Hosanagara and Shikaripur taluks. On Tuesday, heavy rain battered the city till the evening.
Yadur in Hosanagara taluk received 172 mm over the last 24 hours, while Hulikal received 104 mm, Maani catchment area 110 mm and 96 mm in Mastikatte. Agumbe received 105 mm and Tirthahalli 83 mm.

Inflow into Linganamakki reservoir increased by 2.5 ft at 36 cusec. At 8 am Tuesday morning, water level in the reservoir was 1772.80 ft, 46 ft below the full capacity of 1819 ft.

Bhadra Reservoir has nearly reached its full capacity of 156 ft, at 155 ft and 10 inches. Inflow is 11,480 cusec.

Kodagu
Rain has been unrelenting in the district, with the southern and northern parts bearing the brunt.

In southern Kodagu, with heavy rain in Hudikeri, Srimangala, Kutta, Birunani and Baalele, river Lakshmanatirtha is in spate. Northern Kodagu too has been experiencing heavy rain in Somawarpet, Shanivarasanthe, Kodlipet and Shanthalli with the whole of Tuesday receiving continuous showers.

Rain has receded in Siddapura, Pollibetta and Ammathi, while Kushalanagar in the plains part of the district has received no rain.
Moderate rain has been reported in Talacauvery, Bhagamandala, Madikeri, Napoklu, Gonikoppal, Virajpete and other places. With intermittent rain in Talacauvery area, water level in Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala has continued to remain the same.
Madikeri town received a couple of showers in the afternoon. Shanthalli received the maximum rain of 154.60 mm over the last 24 hours. Bhamangandala received 92.40 mm, Madikeri 58.40, Napoklu 75.60 mm and Somwarpet  received 57.83 mm. The water level in Harangi reservoir has risen by two ft. and the level stood on Tuesday at 2848.44 ft, 10 ft below the full level. Inflow was 5875 cusecs.
